ODTUG Kscope14 – Day 2

June 25th, 2014

Another great day and interesting and informative sessions at Kscope14. Below you’ll find some highlights of the day.

Oracle Hyperion

Executive Briefing: Enterprise Performance Management Strategy and Vision” provided a lot of insight into the Hyperion release. First it looks to like it’ll be a game changer:

  • The mobile app and interface is a lot sleeker—they taking an icon approach to navigate instead of sticking with traditional workspace page.
  • The tablet demo looked great—almost like looking at a Mac interface vs. Windows 95.
  • Users will be able create own forms and reports and to make their ad hoc sheets into print quality pdf FR reports.
  • There’s a promise of “Valid Intersections” for Essbase.

The target release for is December 2014. We’re looking forward to it.

Lunchtime at the conference

The lunchtime EPM Lunch and learns were packed with people and information.

Oracle demo area

There was a lot of interest in the DRM station at the Oracle Demo area—it was busy all day.

Standout sessions

Contemplating making your account dimension sparse. It was a traditional planning design on trial. The presenters made a compelling case on how to make your account dimension sparse instead of dense for a really large account dimension.

SQL Developer session XML discussed how you can configure the application to do repetitive tasks.

And of course TopDown’s Solution Architect and DRM expert, Steve Davis, presented Data Relationship Governance – Try It, You’ll Like It to a packed house. The information was well received and he went 15 minutes overtime to answer the large number of questions.

Our favorite new thing

The tablet interface for Planning is fantastic. We’ve been waiting for it for a long time and we’re not disappointed—say it looked beautiful and we’re really looking forward to using Planning administration tools on a mobile device.

Interesting tidbit

Another interesting thing to note is we discovered a chocolate cookie is not always a chocolate cookie—sometimes they have raisins.
